About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is Taiwan considered a different country for the 144 hour visa free transit?

I'm flying from the US to Taiwan, staying for 4 days, then flying to Beijing, staying for 3 days, then flying back to the US. This appears to meet the free visa transit requirements but I don't have a regular visa and would like to get this confirmed. The Chinese consulate in Houston told me that Taiwan is considered part of China, but that conflicts with this blog and others I've seen. Can anyone confirm that they've used the transit visa with Taiwan as one of the from/to countries?

Thank you for your reply. You are correct that my flight back to the US has a short layover and change of planes in Taiwan, but my final destination is the US. Does that disqualify me from the transit visa?

Dear, if your flight back to the US has a short layover in Taiwan, you can't enjoy visa exemption transit.

For transit purposes its considered separate country. Though you need to be sure Beijing back to the US does not have a landing in Taiwan as well. It needs to be non-stop flight from Beijing to the third country
