Round Trip Visa?

We found a great fare to visit Beijing from LAX for 3.5 days. Since we are just flying round trip, is it safe to assume we would not qualify for a transit visa? (US Passports). Thanks!

Traveling on a round trip, you are not qualified for any kind of visa free transit scheme. This should not be confused with transit visa because transit visa is something you have to obtain in advance at relevant institution established or authorized by China to issue different types of Chinese visa. On the other side, visa free transit is a travel without visa under the conditions that you are really in a transit where it is involved a third country. So, with the itinerary of your kind, you will have to apply for a Chinese tourist (L) visa in advance. The good detail is that US citizens are eligible for 10 year multiple entry visa.
