Can I enter under TWOV with a EU passport expiring in 5 months ?

Can I enter under TWOV with a EU passport expiring in 5 months ?
I have been reading some embassy websites saying you need 6 months of validity in the passport for TWOV in China.

Where is the source for 3 months coming from? For example, foreign minister in Paris says 6 months of passport valdiity on French website to visit China
