About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will i be eligible for a 24 hour or 72 hour visa

My family and i were booked on an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Shanghi. the next day we were due to catch a cruise ship leaving Shanghai. However, the Air Asia desk at KL would not grant us authority to board unless we could prove we were leaving Shanghai within 72 hours on another flight. The cruise booking for them was not valid. IS that correct?

Well, as far as I know, cruise booking should be valid. You can ask them to check the TIMATIC database.

I would like to support what Andrea has already mentioned... Your cruise booking IS VALID as a proof for 24 or 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai (72 hour was replaced with 144 hour a couple of years ago). To conclude, you have to insist that the lazy staff check the facts and after that, they will have to allow you to board your plane.

By the way, you should have in mind that your cruise should not have the first port call, immediately after Shanghai, in mainland China. If this condition is fulfilled, you are fine for visa free transit in Shanghai.
