About:Apply for China Visa in a Third Country

US Passport, Applying for work permit in China.

Hello, I am an America citizen who has been working and living in China for almost a year. I left my last job before my contract ended so they canceled my work permit and gave me a “humanitarian” visa with 30 days. My new employer has already applied for my new work permit; however, they said it would take 15 working days to process and I only have 7 total days left on my current visa at this point. If I leave by the time my current visa expires and go to Macau, what kind of visa should I apply for in order to come back to mainland and wait for my work permit to be sorted? Would I reapply for a Z visa or a tourist visa?

Dear, you'd better to apply for Z type in Macau after obtaining your work permit.

Would I be able to apply for one without going back to the US first? I thought that they required a current background check and I wouldn’t be able to get one without going home.
