About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

I am leaving on a cruise from Shanghai and returning after 7 days to Shanghai on a uk lassport

We are flying to Shanghai staying 1 night and leaving on a 7 day cruise to Japan returning into Shanghai where we are staying a further 2 nights.Do we need a visa . We are travelling on UK passports

No, you don't, but you should keep following conditions in your mind:

- Your cruise should not have any additional port call within mainland China
- Your flights to and from Hong Kong should not have any additional landings in mainland China and Japan

If the above conditions are satisfied, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai twice. OK, maybe during your first arrival you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit because maybe your stay will be shorter than 24 hours.
