About:Visa on Arrival

Hello I am a US Citizen looking to go to ShenZhen from Hong Kong.

Would I be eligible for the 5-day visa and if so do I get it when I go to SZ or ahead of time? And would I need a Chinese Visa to enter? Thanks!

You are definitely eligible for VOA and you can obtain it upon your arrival at the border crossing, preferably at Lo Wu / Luohu. Easily reachable by local trains. You don't need to announce anything to anybody that you will travel to the city. It is perfectly enough to appear at the border crossing, fill out the form, hand over a passport size photo and pay for the visa. After you have been granted a visa, you will continue to the center of the city by metro. Here you have to be informed that visa, although practical is territory limited, so you are allowed to move just within Special Economic Zone and one other thing, it is quite pricey for US citizens, exactly 956 CNY.
