About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Sure, we will arrive to Beijing from Spain, travelling to Tokyo, and will expend 5 days in Beijing in transit. So I assume according your answer, we are elegible for 144 hours Visa.
Returning from Tokio to SPAIN, we only be in transit at the Beijing Airport for about 5 hours the night between 12 and 13 of september. So, may be will do not need any Visa, or we must apply for a 24 hours Visa? We will not get outside the transit area of the airport.
