Can a Chinese visa be obtained without interview and appointed date for collection

I applied for a Chinese visa through an agency in a travel organization.. But the agency told me that interview is not necessary to obtain a Chinese visa .only for a specific purpose. That the embassy will let us know if interview is needed. The agent said my passport and documents are with the embassy now. Hoping over the past two months. But no specific date for collection. That the embassy didn't give a date for collection. The agency keep telling me to be patient . the embassy are backlogged. What should I do?
