What do you think?

I recently signed a contract to teach English in China as a US citizen without a bachelor's degree. I was under the impression that the agent who put me in touch with a school would help with the visa process. After confirming a position with a school, she informed me that due to recent G20 meetings, business visas were hard to get. So she said I should get a tourist visa.

The thought of that made me uncomfortable. So I let the agent know and I also asked the guy who works for the school or is a local recruiter about my hesitancy to work illegally. I'm awaiting their responses. Came across this website while doing my own research.

What do you think?

You should find another school. I'm currently in the process of getting my Z visa. There is a delay in the foreign experts office but only by like week or so. This is the office where the school applies for your work permit. If someone is telling you to get a tourist visa just find another school. there are so many of them willing to do it the right way. don't risk working with schools who don't want to follow the law.

This is a huge red flag for the School and you should avoid it if you are looking for work still only go on a z visa as anything else can result in you getting deported and having difficulty working in China again. If you are looking for work I have been in China for Five years and you can contact me by wechat cbodenhamer
