Does US Citizens need Visa for 6.5 Bejing layover to Singapore

Hello -- I am a US citizen and will be flying from JFK to Singapore with a 6.5 layover in Bejing. I would like to visit the Great Wall of China during the layover. Do I need a visa? Also, I heard there's a lot of confusion in the airport regrading which gate/door to exit or enter in. Do you have any specifics so that I'm guided correctly to avoid delays.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Yikes! Thanks for that @CDKING! I didn’t realize that. Is there anything you would recommend that we can see or do
that wouldn’t jeopardize our flight time? Would be a shame to go that far and not be able to see anything.

At which time you'll arrive?
There's enough attractions in the city you can reach in time.

Its a 3 hour round trip drive between Airport and the Great Wall. With airport arrival and departure formalities you likely wont even have time to exit the car. Id suggest longer layover or skipping the wall
