About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit Visa For My Sister

I have a 10 year visa for China and my sister wants to travel with me in September. Is she eligible for the 144 hour visa if we enter mainland from Hong Kong into ShenZhen, take the train to Shanghai and leave from there? Thanks in advance!

No, she is not allowed to use 144 hour visa free transit in that way. Simply speaking, the only way to reach Shanghai from Hong Kong overland is to use a through train departing every other day from Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong to Shanghai railway station. This is a conventional and not a high speed train, but is definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai. The alternative to train is, of course, to fly.

By the way, this is not a transit visa or 144 hour visa, but 144 hours visa free transit, so there is no any kind of visa. Please, just use correct terminology to avoid any possible misunderstandings.
