About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 hour visa free transit in Shanghai

Hello!

I already posted a couple of weeks ago my question but I have some doubts.

I‘m currently working in Shanghai with a regular Visa who will expires on August 20th. Before leaving China on July 31st I will go to Indonesia for 23 days (Shanghai Pudong-Jakarta July 31, Jakarta-Shanghai Pudong August 24th).
When I will arrive in Shanghai on August 24th my Visa (residence permit) will already be expired.
Considering I already have a plane ticket from Shanghai Pudong to Moscow (and then Venice) on August 27th (less than 72hours), will I am eligible to get it?

Here my other questions/doubts:
1. Do I have to apply for it in advance or will I have to do at the airport in Jakarta at the check in?
2. Do I have to get in touch with my Embassy to get it?
3. Do I have to get in touch with the Flight company to tell them in advance?
4. I trust you, but considering that rules in China change frequently I'd like to be sure in advance in order to avoid any problems. Is there an office/phone/email where it's possible to check in advance?

Thank you in advance for your help!!!

You are definitely and undoubtedly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai using your itinerary: Jakarta - Shanghai - Moscow. You have to understand that this 144 TWOV has nothing to do with the residence or any other legal status that you had in China because this is just a transit. Literally, just a transit and nothing more than that.

Your questions:

1. You will mention your intention to travel using 144 TWOV in Jakarta at the check-in counter. You will present your flight tickets in hard copy.
2. No, you don't because the embassy has nothing to do with a transit through China. Chinese immigration is in charge for this matter.
3. No, you don't. The customer service of every airline is clueless about this issue.
4. The only official source is Timatic and that source is at the disposition to practically every relevant airport staff member.

You can really trust the above mentioned information and you will be just fine with the entire journey. Just be relaxed.

Two more details... I suggest you to book your accommodation in Shanghai in advance and to have a confirmation is hard copy and have in mind that your flights from Jakarta to Shanghai and from Shanghai to Moscow should not have any additional landing within mainland China!
