About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

ticket with 2 transfers in China - Urumchi and Guangzhou - is transit visa required?

Bought ticket with China Southern from Almaty to Christchurch with 2 transfers (Diwopu airport and Gunagzhou airport) . Is transit visa required?

Yes, you need a Chinese transit (G) visa obtained in advance because your transit time in Urumqi is longer than 2 hours and you also have a connection from international to purely domestic flight in the same time, i.e. you don't fly on the same flight from Almaty to Guangzhou, but on different flight numbers. This is not allowed in Urumqi, so a transit visa is a must.
