About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

HK - Chongqing - India

A student from South Korea is living in Chongqing With X1 visa. The visa hold for July 19.

She will leave on 19th to Hong Kong by train.

On 21st or 22nd, she scheduled to go back to Chongqing by train.

She wants to fly to India from Chongqing after that.

Hong Kong - Chongqing by train
Chongqing - India by air

Is she allowed 24 hour visa free? If so when 24 hours are started to count?

Unfortunately, this is simply impossible to perform without a visa. It is not allowed to take a train from Hong Kong to Chongqing for visa free transit purposes. You will have to take a flight from Hong Kong to Chongqing and you can also enjoy 72 hours visa free transit. Of course, you can enjoy 24 hours visa free transit too in case that your entire transit time within China is shorter than 24 hours.

24 hours visa free transit is calculated from your scheduled arrival time in China, until your scheduled departure time from China.

By the way, your first part of the itinerary, i.e. taking a train from Chongqing to Hong Kong is fine because you will be covered by visa.
