Travelling from UK-Hong Kong-Xi'an-Beijing

hello,my wife and i are travelling to hong kong from the uk.then on to axian for a 5 day tour with weny woo tours travelling from axian to beijing.leaving after the 5 day tour finnishes,the on to a cruise from beijing.and not returning to china

You need a full tourist Chinese (L) visa. The reason is simple, you are not allowed to travel through two Chinese transit zones (Beijing and Xi'an in your case) within a period longer than 24 hours.
