About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Hi there. Is it possible to travel from Japan to Beijing for 130 hours

And then fly back to Japan again afterwards without needing a VISA? Or does the third country need to be different to the point of entry to China? Thanks, Craig

I think the rule is quite clear. You must fly to a different country, not back to your origin.

No, the third country need to be different to the point of entry to China.
