If Beijing is your only stop in mainland China, you are definitely eligible for 24 hours visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. In case that you plan to exit the airport, then you will have to apply for 24 hours free entry permit upon landing in Shanghai. Anyway, you should be aware that such a permit is always issued at the discretion of immigration authorities that can deny you one. Like this, you should be prepared that you will have to wait for your next flight in the transit zone of Shanghai airport in case that your entry permit is denied.
