About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa free on different itineraries?

We indend to fly from AMS to Beijing and Tokyo, and then from Tokyo to Chengdu and Amsterdam. The most sensible way to buy airtickets look to be like this: Booking one itinerary for AMS - Beijing and Chengdu back to AMS, and the other for Beijing - Tokyo - Chengdu part. Shall we still be qualified for visa free stays in both Beijing and Chengdu, if our tickets are on different itineraries? I would think so, but these experiences say different:

Thank you but maybe I put it incorrectly. We would have one reservation for AMS Beijing plus Chengdu - Amsterdam, and second with other airline for Beijing - Tokyo - Chengdu. I am not sure if we are eligible as we have the onward airtickets with other reservations, not in the same one.

Peter, if those are all your stops within the itinerary, you are definitely eligible regardless of your airlines (one two or more airlines) or ticket types (multi-city, single, return, separate, through... they are all fine). As Elinor has already mentioned, you are eligible for 144 hours in both Chinese cities.
