About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is LOI ok to get a transit visa in BJ?

I have Australian passport. I am flying from lisboa (Portugal) to Beijing. I require a 2-3 day layover before I fly to Ashgabat (Turkmenistan). I will have a letter of invitation to allow me to collect a visa at Ashgabat airport. Will this present a problem with BJ customs issuing me a transit visa?

Beijing custom has nothing to do with visas but the immigration.
But they don't issue transit visas at beijing airport, you have to apply for it in advance at the embassy.
In your case you don't need a transit visa, you are covered by the 144h twov. when you don't have another stop in China on your flight from Beijing to Ashgarat.
