Family of 4 stopping in Shanghai

My family of 2 adults and 2 children under 6 has 5 hours in Shanghai before moving onto the U.S. We would love to see Shanghai but what can we do that is family friendly in that short amount of time? Thanks!

You should not count on the possibility to be allowed to exit the airport in case that you are flying on one (through) ticket. You will not be allowed to do that because in general only the layovers longer than 8 hours are taken into consideration for issuing of entry permit. Of course, if your flights are on different tickets and you will have to collect the luggage and make a new check-in, then you will be granted a free entry permit and you would be, theoretically, in possibility to exit the airport, but since Shanghai airport is quite time consuming while making a transfer, I'm afraid that you will run out of your time that you intended to use for your short visit.
