About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

US passport-Guangzhou-Korea

US passport holder flying from NYC to Guangzhou (planning 3 nights/4 days in Guangzhou) but stop over in Korea for 4 hour staying in airport and arrive in Guangzhou for 3 night and going to Korea for 2 weeks and back to USA can use 144 visa free?

If your full itinerary is:

NYC - South Korea - Guangzhou - South Korea - US

You need a pre-arranged Chinese visa because this is considered as a visit and not a transit. As you can see, you are returning to the place from where you have arrived in Guangzhou. In reality, only the immediate points before and after the Chinese destination matter.

As an alternative, you could insert Hong Kong between Guangzhou and South Korea and be eligible.
