About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

How does the visas work for the following

Travelling to Hong Kong next year from Australia, staying 6 nights in Macua and Hong Kong, before boarding a Cruise around South China Seas for 14 nights.

First China stop will be Taijing (Beijing destination) where we will be night night layover. We will be heading to Beijing for 2 nights then reboard Cruise which will head to Shanghai.

In Shanghai we will be there 4 nights.

I have been told that this would count for two visa exemptions? (144 for Shanghai and 72 for Beijing)

Is this correct?

No. Since you will be having two ports of call in mainland China in a row you will need a standard tourist visa. The 144-hour transit is only applicable for those whose cruise has one port of call at a time and is using said port as a point for transiting to a third country (e.g., HK-Shanghai-South Korea-Shanghai-HK is eligible but HK-South Korea-Shanghai-South Korea-Shanghai-HK is not, and neither is HK-Beijing-Shanghai-South Korea).

Thanks, but I just realised that the Cruise goes from Tianjin to Seoul then to Shanghai. I think this changes the Visa requirements as we are not going to another Chinese port post Beijing. Am I correct that we will only need 72 hours in Tianjin and 144 in Shanghai?

The cruise goes HK, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea (Pusan, Jelu Island) , Tianjin, Seoul and then Shanghai.
So 6 nights in Hong Kong/ Macua, 14 night cruise (2 nights in Beijing), then into Shanghia after Seoul stop.

Sorry for the confusion, just want to make sure i get this right.

You still need a visa because of the South Korea-China-South Korea part.
