About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai 3 night stay then 5 day cruise.

Hi,
If anyone could please help I’d really appreciate it. We are flying from the UK to Shanghai with KLM (stop in Amsterdam), we have 3 nights booked in a hotel in Shanghai then leave Shanghai for a 5 night cruise to Okinawa and Kagoshima and then returning to Shanghai to fly home to the UK (again via Amsterdam), will we need a full visa or could we apply for the 144 hour waver? I’m aware the first 144 hour visa would have expired by the time we arrive back at the port at the end of the cruise but are just transferring straight to the airport to fly home so don’t know if we could get another waver in order to get from the port to the airport? Thanks

There are no problems with your itinerary because you have two clear and legitimate transits:

1. Amsterdam - Shanghai - Japan

Here, you will enjoy 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai. Anyway, you should just take care that the first port call immediately after Shanghai is not in mainland China because this is not allowed.

2. Japan - Shanghai - Amsterdam

Here, you will enjoy 24 hours visa free transit because you will stay in Shanghai for less than 24 hours. Anyway, you should just take care that the last port call immediately before Shanghai is not in mainland China because this is not allowed.

Everything is fine and you should just check whether the above mentioned conditions are met regarding your cruise and you can definitely enjoy visa free transit in China.
