This is just fine. In reality, the entire structure of visa free transit regulations within mainland China is based on the immediate points before and after your mainland Chinese destination or better to say place of transit. So, only the immediate points before and after mainland China matter regardless if we talk about short layovers, long stopovers, final destinations or anything else. It is literally enough that the wheels of the plane touch the runway and it already counts as a country A or C. Anything before and after them is literally irrelevant. For example, everything that matters from your itinerary is Bangkok - Chengdu - Hong Kong and Bangkok after Hong Kong is irrelevant. This is all that interests mainland Chinese authorities. In reality your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit.
