About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

looking to travel Detroit to Shanghai then to Phuket, will this qualify for a 144 hour visa

Itinerary Detroit - Shanghai - Phuket is definitely qualified for 144 hours visa free transit in case that you don't have any additional landings within mainland China. Please, just use correct terminology because you will stay in Shanghai on 144 hours visa free transit and not on any kind of visa.
