60 days duration of stay

Thank you for the article, it is very helpful.
I do have a question: I have a multiple entry L visa, with duration of stay 60 days. I arrive to Hainan on July 1 and leave it on August 30 which is exactly 60 days if we count the July 1. But I will have a layover in Chengdu for 17 hours and will go through the boarder on August 31, making it 61 days. Is it true that the duration of stay count starts the next date after arrival? In my case will they count from July 2 to August 31?
