Applying while in China

Is it possible to get a Q1 visa while I’m in China? I’m here on a Q2 visa, can it be switched to a Q1 without leaving? I suppose I could mail everything to a visa service and have it sent back but that seems a bit cumbersome and I would be here with my passport.
I was able to switch from a work visa to Q2 a few years ago while in the country.

That's at the discretion of the local Exit and Entry Administration since they are the ones in charge of issuing family-based residence permits. (Q1 visa only allows you to apply for a residence permit within 30 days of arrival and does not authorize actual residence.)

Hunt, it is possible for you to switch Q2 to Q1 if you have enough evidence. Plus, you should go to local PSB for renewal and there is actually no mail service.
