About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Am I technically a "Transit Passenger" if my inbound and outbound flights are booked separately?

I am flying from Myanmar to Beijing on January 3 and then have a separate ticket booked from Beijing to DFW. Does the fact that the two tickets are booked on separate itineraries cause a problem for me for the 72 hour transit visa? How about for the 24 hour transit visa?
From another website, I cut and pasted the following clause that troubles me:
A “transit passenger,” for purposes of China’s 72-hour visa rule, must be planning to fly into one of the cities mentioned above and depart within 72 hours on one itinerary. Air travelers are not considered “transit passengers” if they are arriving and departing on different itineraries or on airlines without interline agreements

Separate tickets are allowed. As long as Beijing is the only mainland landing then yiu can do the 144 hour transit (72 ours no longer exists in Beijing), if more than one mainland landing then limit is 24 hours.
