About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Round trip Melbourne - HK - XIAMEN - HK - Melbourne

I have Australian passport. Does the round trip eligible for the 144 hours visa free? Thanks.

No, your itinerary is not eligible for 144h visa exemption transit.

With just a bit of creativity, you can make your itinerary perfectly eligible. You should just supplement Hong Kong with Macau on your travel back from Xiamen, so that your itinerary looks like this:

Melbourne - HK - Xiamen - Macau - by ferry or bus to Hong Kong - Melbourne

As you can see, with this small deviation to Macau, you suddenly becomes eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Xiamen.
