You are eligible for 24 or 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai, but with two conditions:

- Your flights to and from Shanghai should not have any additional landing within mainland China or in the country where your cruise is heading to.
- Your cruise should not have a port call in mainland China immediately after and immediately before your departure/arrival from/to Shanghai. Fore example, an itinerary like Australia - Shanghai - Busan (South Korea) is fine.

If these two conditions are satisfied, you can travel through Shanghai perfectly visa free.
