what is the difference between 72 hours and 144 hours visa free if I am Italian

I am flying Hong Kong Beijing LAX staying 5 days in Beijing. I am Italian. I wrote to China consulate and they told me that I can stay 72 hours visa free. However I understand that I am eligible to 144 hours visa free. Could you help me to understand if I can stay 5 days.

Thank you

Hi, of course you can stay 5 days. The 72-hour free visa had expanded to 144-hour free visa now.
