About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 hour visa for Toronto-Shanghai-Tokyo-Shanghai-Toronto?

We are trying to determine if we can use the 72 hour visa for this itinerary:

We have round-trip tickets from Shanghai to Tokyo already bought for next week. We need to get from Toronto to Shanghai and back and don't have time to apply for a longer visa.

Can we buy a round-trip ticket from Toronto to Shanghai (with one night in Shanghai on the way to Tokyo and two nights in Shanghai on the way back to Canada)?

Is this allowed? If not, would two one-way tickets work?

Separate tickets are fine. Note that there is no such thing as a 72 hour visa. You are in transit without a visa.
