About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

My flight has been cancelled and booked for the following day causing an overstay.

What should I do?

You mean, your flight out of China, right? In case that you are already in China, you should not be worried because this situation is out of your control and you will be treated as if you were departed by your original flight. Just keep this information that you have received with you and show it to relevant authorities, i.e. Chinese immigration.
