About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Egyptian Citizen is going to transit in Bejing for 20 hrs

I ma travelling from Auckland to Athens on Air China, I will have long layover in both directions, Airchina told me I am not able to leave airport if I wil get 24-hrs transite free visa and I should apply to the consulate in Auckland for 72 hr transit visa before I go in order to move to transit hotel.
my question can I just obtain 24-hrs transit free visa at airport and then get a permit to leave and stay in the hotel and see the city in both ways?

Look, the most important detail in your case is that your layovers are less than 24 hours long, so you are perfectly qualified for 24 hours visa free transit in Beijing. Actually, you don't need any kind of visa for your entirre journey through China. Now, to exit the airport is totally different thing. I have read what you were told by Air China and trust me, customer services are more or less useless for this type of inquiries. The truth is that, having such a long layovers, you should apply, upon your arrival in Beijing, for 24 hours free entry permit. You will support your application with your valid tickets and with your accommodation booking in hard copy. So, you should have your accommodation booking done before your flight toward China. Your chances are very good to be allowed to exit the airport and to have a normal sleep in the hotel, but you should always have in mind that the issuing of entry permits is always upon discretion of immigration official.
