About:Beijing Travel

If I am coming from LAX to Beijing and landing on the 24th @ 5:20am

and I have a departure flight from PEK to Korea on the 27th 6:45pm, can I apply for a 144-hour TWOV transit without visa?

Also on the requirements of the TWOV 144 hr visa it states: 1. Passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry

Is that 3 months after a brand new renewal (I.E. renew in Jan to apply in April) or does it mean it must have 3 months before the visa expires (ie. currently September expires in December.)
