About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

travel from USA to Mongolia through Beijing

I am departing from Washington Dulles airport USA on June 26, arriving in Beijing on June 27. My connecting flight to UlanBator Mongolia is on June 30. My return flight from UlanBator is July 7 again with a stop over in Beijing, departing on July 8 back to Dulles in Washingto DC. As I understand it I should be ok for the free transit during both layovers.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit twice. OK, maybe your return journey will be covered by 24 hours TWOV, but it really doesn't matter in your particular case. Just bring your documents, i.e. your tickets and hotel bookings for Beijing in hard copy because it will be required during your entire journey.
