About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

London ->Beijing/Wuhu Wanli (Layover) -> Shanghai -> Hong Kong

Hello. I am in the process of booking my flights, however it seems Air China and China Southern are coming the cheapest, however they have a stop over in Beijing or Wuhu Wanli Airport for a few hours.

I won’t be leaving the airport, but can I still get a 144 Visa at my final destination in Shanghai.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, you cannot use this itinerary and remain eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai. The rules for 144 hours visa free are clear and they state that you are not allowed to have more than one stop within mainland China. So, your itinerary limits you to just 24 hours visa free travel from your scheduled arrival in Bejing until your scheduled departure from Shanghai.

In order to be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai, you have to arrive in Shanghai without any additional previous landing of any kind within mainland China. So, you have a choice to travel to Hong Kong using 24 hours visa free transit using actual itinerary, to obtain a visa and retain the actual itinerary or change the flights to become eligible for 144 hours visa free transit.
