About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

GZ, BJ, SH in 72 hours

I will fly in to GZ from HK on Tue evening.
Then stay overnight. Next evening fly to Beijing and stay Wed night. Thu afternoon fly to SH. Friday afternoon fly out to Malaysia.

Can I use the 72 hour transit visa for this?

I have an Australian Passport.

You need a visa. Multiple stops immediately limits you to 24 hours transit without visa.

Unfortunately not. You are not allowed to travel between more than one Chinese region consecutively in order to be eligible for 72/144 hours visa free transit. You will have to obtain L Chinese visa in advance.
