About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

immigration clearance

I am an Indian citizen. I am heading to India from Canada though Shanghai (4 hours layover). Do I need to go through immigration clearance in Shangai? Do I need to go through customs clearance and recheck my luggage? Both flights are China Eastern? Last time I flew through Xiamen By Xiamen Airlines and all passengers had to recheck their checked in bags.

China Eastern flights are all in Terminal 1 so you don't need to go through immigration. Upon arrival you will simply go to the location in which you clear transit security. (IIRC there will be a counter where they scan your passport before going through the actual security process but that is usually staffed by an ordinary airport staff not associated with law enforcement.)

Also for most China Eastern flights you don't need to recheck your luggage.
