About:China Visa Exemption

Malaysian - shanghai - japan can go out of immi to get boarding pass for japan?

Hi,I'm Malaysian and my chinese visa is single entry. I'm flying to Malaysia on the 16th from shanghai, and back to Shanghai on the 24th. Then my next flight is from shanghai to Japan on the 25th.....by that time my Chinese visa won't be valid anymore. Could I go out of immigration to print my boarding pass for the japan flight and stay overnight in Shanghai? Didn't know that I have to hold the boarding pass to get out of the port earlier and flights already booked..
Thank you very much.

It is important that your stay in Shanghai is less than 24 hours. If the number of hours between your scheduled arrival time in Shanghai and your scheduled departure time from Shanghai is less that 24 hours, you are perfectly covered by 24 hours visa free transit. So, it is not important whether your Chinese visa will be valid or not. Also, it is fine to have separate tickets and in case that you have to collect your luggage and make new check-in, you will apply for 24 hours free entry permit and it will be granted to you because there is no other way how could you make your transit. Also, after your entry permit is granted, you will exit the airport and have an overnight in the city. It is highly advisable that you arrive in Shanghai with already booked accommodation. Have that in printed form.

Thanks a lot.
It turned out that, same as what you've described, it was a 3min process to enter shanghai without any trouble as long as you have your next flight (also hotel or proof of a place to stay) printed out (departure within 24 hours).
I've got my temporary visa twice in one week for my Malaysia - Shanghai, Shanghai-Japan, Japan - Shanghai trip and then I left China.
I also double checked with the staff on site of Shanghai immigration. For Malaysian passport holder with no bad records, it is for sure to do visa free entrance to China if you can prove that you're flying to another country within 24 hours.
