About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Am I eligible for transit visa if I fly Bangkok-Shanghai-Taipei, then from Taipei back to Bangkok?

Everything I have found lists Taiwan as a 3rd country, and therefore eligible, but just want to be sure.
Thanks in advance.

You don't need a transit visa (or any other kind of visa) for 144 hours if your nationality is on the list of 53 countries, and for 24 hours for all other nationalities.

Jo, you didn't mention what your citizenship is and for how long do you plan to stay in Shanghai! These are crucial information to be able to give you an answer. Anyway, in case that your transit in Shanghai is less that 24 hours and regardless of your citizenship, you are perfectly eligible for 24 hours visa free transit and in case that your citizenship is among 53 qualified countries, you are eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai twice, of course if your flight back from Taipei to Bangkok is again routed via Shanghai. Just one detail more, try to avoid the phrase "transit visa" because you will fly visa free!

Dear Zupan

Thank you so much for your reply, it is much appreciated. Noted about the visa free terminology.

I have UK citizenship and will fly in to Shanghai on Friday and depart Sunday morning to Taipei. I will then fly directly to Bangkok later in the week.

Thanks again for your help.
