About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Denied 24 hour visa

We are a big group of 20+ people traveling from Vietnam to Italy with a stop at Beijing PEK. Half the group got denied on the 24 h transit visa and could not leave the airport today, May 4. The other half went through.
The visa officers refused to provide a reason for this.
Any idea what happened?
We all got allowed 2 weeks earlier on the journey from Italy to Vietnam via PEK.

No one was denied 24 hour transit without visa, otherwise they would have been deported back to Vietnam. There is no guarantee that entry permit to leave airport will be issued as that is up to immigration discretion. I'm guessing not everyone in the group has the same nationality? The passport being traveled on can make a difference.

We all have the same nationality.
We all visited Vietnam and Cambodia during our stay. We were all allowed to leave the airport 2 weeks ago. Same type of passport(electronic).
Maybe it has smth to do with the holiday China observes today?

Maybe, but just maybe one half of your group had some kind of accommodation booking while the other half did not? Accommodation bookings are almost always the best argument when applying for 24 hours free entry permit.

We all only shown the boarding cards for the flight to italy.
It seemed really random to us. No easy to identify correlation between the ones refused or the ones allowed.
Also really weird that the Visa officers didn't want to tell us the reason we were denied...

Since a few days you have more and more reports that's a jeopardy to use twov at Beijing at the moment.
Passengers got even denied the 144h twov, the most ones with Turkey stamps in their passports.

If it's possible I would avoid Beijing for twov at the moment.
