It is definitely OK, just take care that your flight from Shanghai to Sweden does not have any additional landing within mainland China with the exception of Shanghai.

Yes, you are definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai. It is important to stress that your flight from Shanghai should not have any additional landing within mainland China beside Shanghai.

So if the flight from Shanghai to Sweden requires a landing in Beijing to change planes (I won't leave the airport), I will not be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai?

Correct. Two stops in Beijing and Shanghai immediately limits you to 24 hours unless you get a visa.
