About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

We are taking a cruise out of Shanghai going to Japan, then returning to Shanghai.

Are we visa-exempt? WE will only stay in SH for 2.5 days before the cruise, and then only a few hours afterwards before boarding a flight out of China.

Just make sure your flight arriving and leaving Shanghai do not make a landing in Japan and its good for visa free transit in each direction.

It will depend on the full itinerary: The last flight landing before Shanghai must not be in China or Japan. The fight after you return to shanghai must also not be Japan.

[Not China or Japan] > Shanghai > Japan > Shanghai > [Not China or Japan] is valid without visa both ways.

Yes, you are fine for 144 and 24 visa free transit, but you should keep in mind that your cruise should not have any mainland Chinese port call immediately after your departure from Shanghai and also, you should not have any mainland Chinese port call immediately before your return to Shanghai.

It is very important that you inform us from where do you plan to arrive in SH because it cannot be Japan and also where do you intend to fly after your second arrival in SH. For example, if your whole itinerary looks something like this:

Canada - SH - Japan
Japan - SH - Canada

Then you would be perfectly eligible for 144 and 24 hours visa free transit. It is also very important to know that you are not allowed to travel to any mainland Chinese port immediately after you have left SH for your cruise and also you should not have any mainland Chinese port immediately before your arrival by cruise to SH.
