Is HK Considered a 3rd party country?

Hi There,

I am planning a vacation and I found a very good flight combination to meet a friend in Guangzhou but I would like to save the cost for a VISA. (German Passport)
It seems possible, accordingly to other answers in this blog, to apply for a 72-hrs Visa, with:

London -> Istanbul -> Guangzhou (Ticket 1)
Guangzhou -> HK (with a flight) (Ticket 2)
HK -> Frankfurt

Unfortunately, the agency told me that tickets must be issued separately. (The offer is from a subsidiary of expedia)
Is there anything I should know?

Thanks,
Thomas

Your combination of flights is just fine. Also, it is not relevant whether your tickets are sold separately. This is not a detail that interests Chinese authorities at all. Just have your tickets in printed form. You should also have in mind that the day of your arrival in not counted in overall amount of 72 hours. In reality, the counting of hours begins the next day starting from 00:00 hours. By the way, Hong Kong is considerd as third country within the rules of visa free transit of mainland China.

Just to inform you about very important news. Guangzhou and the entire Guangdong province has adopted 144 hours visa free transit and even better detail is that after your stay in Guangzhou, that can be longer than you have originally planned, you can leave Guangzhou and the entire province of Guangdong by train to Hong Kong. To conclude, it is compulsory to enter Guangzhou and Guangdong province by air, but you can leave it by train or by bus or even by boat to Hong Kong and to Macau.
