About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is it possible to go visa-free flying with different airlines?

For example buying a flight Bangkok-Shanghai with China Eastern and then after 48 hours Shanghai-London with Air Astana

Separate airlines and tickets are allowed, just make sure the China Eastern flight is non-stop and doesn't make landing in other Chinese cities on the way.
