About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Are the single state of the European Union elegible as 3rd party country?

Hi There,

I am planning a short notice journey to the Guangzhou region (Shenzhen).
My plan is to book a multiple city journey, originating in Italy and returning to Germany.
1. Itinerary A: Italy> Shenzhen -> Germany. Is this considered a flight to a 3rd party?
2. Itinerary B: I could also possibly stop in Singapore on the way back Italy> Shenzhen ->Singapore -> Germany.
3. The airlines must be the same for all the flights or can be different airlines ? (the tickets will be issued by a travel agency)

Thanks,
Lorenzo

Separate tickets and/or different carriers are fine. Italy and Germany are different countries so that’s ok too, as long as you are on non-stop flights and you don’t have any other stops that you didn’t mention. You are limited to 24 hours transit in Shenzhen, of course.

Hi thanks for the quick reply. And in order to be elegible for the 72-hrs in the Guangzhou province? What should be the requirements I should satisfy?

Thanks,
Lorenzo

You would have to fly to and from Guangzhou airport and not Shenzhen airport, and have a valid itinerary and passport.

So, a person with an Italian passport and an itinerary like:
Rome(Italy) -> Guangzhou
Guangzhou -> Frankfurt (Germany)
Would be valid to apply for 72hrs in the Guangzhou province?

Thanks,
Lawrence

Exactly. Just one small correction. You would be definitely eligible for Guangzhou city and entire Guangdong province for 72 hours visa free transit. By the way, in my opinion, with the exception if this is a business or similar short trip for some similar purpose, it would be wiser to obtain Chinese visa and to travel for a longer time and in places that you like.
