About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Quick holiday in Shanghai

I'm a Swedish citizen joining my friend who is a pilot on his flight from London to Shanghai. We will stay less than 72 hours before returning to London. Can I enjoy the 72h China free transit(or even 144h)? Or do I need to apply for a regular visa?

You need a visa because you’re not in transit. Also, transit without visa would require a confirmed ticket and not standby.

So all I need is a confirmed ticket (with a refund possibillity) to another destination (Sweden for example) leaving after my flight to London?

No. You actually need to fly non-stop to another destination. If you try to return directly to London, you will be caught and detained and the consequences will be unpleasant. Seriously, don't even think about trying to deceive Chinese police.

Ok. My aim was not to decieve. I am just trying to figure out how the rules are applied, and what is allowed and not. Thank you for your swift reply.
