***URGENT***Toronto -> Shanghai -> Beijing *2 nights* -> Bangkok -> Shanghai -> Toronto

I land in Shanghai on 4/10/19 and take a connecting flight to PEK. Am I going to have to go through customs in Shanghai?

Also, do I need a visa to connect to my flight to PEK so I can get to Bangkok on 4/12/19?

Do I qualify for a 72 hr or 144 hr visa (will be staying for less) in PEK?

Yes, you need to go through customs in Shanghai.
In addition, for the part 'Toronto - Shanghai - BJ', you can only enjoy the 24 hours visa free policy. If the stopover is more than 24 hours, you need to apply for the visa in advance in your country.

For the part 'Bangkok - Shanghai - Toronto', you are eligible for 144 hours visa free policy.
